UL 325 governs the operator and its entrapment protection. ASTM F2200 governs the gate itself. Most non-compliant gates we inspect were compliant the day they were installed.

How it works on a commercial site
Compliance is not a certificate you get once. Photo eyes drift out of alignment. Safety edges get clipped by a delivery truck and stop conducting. Someone disables a nuisance-tripping sensor to stop the gate stalling, and the entrapment zone it covered is now unprotected.
We inspect against both standards, document what we find with the reason it matters, and quote the retrofit separately so you can see exactly what you are paying to fix. Where a gate cannot be brought into compliance economically, we say that plainly rather than papering over it.

If your gate was installed before the current revisions, or has been serviced by more than one contractor, it is worth an inspection. Non-compliance usually surfaces after an incident, which is the expensive time to find out.
Common questions
Is a UL 325 inspection a legal requirement?
The standards are referenced by code and by most insurers rather than being a standalone legal filing. In practice, after an incident, the question of whether the installation met UL 325 and ASTM F2200 is the first one asked.
What does an inspection cover?
Every entrapment zone on the gate, the class and configuration of the operator, inherent reversing, secondary protection devices and their alignment, guarding, positive stops, and warning signage. You get it in writing with photographs.
Our gate keeps stopping for no reason. Is that a safety fault?
Usually it is a photo eye out of alignment or a dirty lens, and it is a warning rather than a nuisance. The wrong response is to disable it. Call us and we will realign or replace it and keep the zone protected.
